BEYOND THE SMILE - BAVYA P (4th BA LLB)

We live in a world that rewards smiling.
“Stay positive.”
“Be strong.”
“Don’t overthink.”
“Move on.”
So we smile.
We smile when we are overwhelmed.
We smile when we are misunderstood.
We smile when we are breaking quietly inside.

Not because we are happy —
but because we don’t want to be a burden.
Everyone you meet is carrying something invisible: expectations, failures, insecurities, fears about the future, regrets from the past. Yet we master the art of looking fine.
But being human is not about looking perfect.
It is about feeling deeply. Struggling. Rising. Falling. Trying again.

What if we stopped measuring strength by silence?

What if we allowed space for honesty?

What if we created a culture where saying “I’m not okay” is courage, not weakness?
The truth is simple: No one is untouched by struggle.
“A smile can brighten a face, but compassion can heal a soul.”
Let us look beyond appearances.
Let us choose empathy over assumption.
Let us remember everyone is human before anything else.
