THE UNHEARD SCREAMS - PRIYANKA A (3rd YEAR BA.LLB)

Every week, a new report is released by our Government of India about something more frightening – the rising number of rape cases. Even stock market statistics may crash, but the rape case graph is always heading north. From the Mathura Rape Case (1979) to the Coimbatore Airport Rape Case (2025), the rise in such crimes is faster than the pace of human progress in our society.

This is a generation where women have lost their lives in the war of equality, as the growth of feminism still feels almost non-existent. For every woman stepping out after sunset, it has become a silent freedom struggle, filled with fear and tears for survival. Because, from newborns to teenagers, mothers to elderly grandmothers are raped, irrespective of age or circumstance. Nations like India judge relationships by caste, religion and background; however, these barriers dissolve in the face of crimes like rape.

Neither the privileged nor the underprivileged is spared. They are no longer just victims; they are SURVIVORS! They are living with strength, courage and dignity. The screams remain unheard, not because they are weak, but because the legal system often fails them.

“The real safety of women is not only in cameras, lights, police or laws – it lies in families with open conversations and in the minds of men who respect women even when no one is watching.”
